Runner's Injury Treatment
A Specialized Program for Runner’s Injury Treatment & Prevention
Your strongest miles are ahead of you. Whether you run 5ks, ultras, or around the neighborhood, our running specialists are here to ensure you run strong and pain-free.
Running injuries are highly prevalent; up to 60% of runners sustain them while training or racing. A typical runner will take over 5,000 steps during a 30 minute run, resulting in a lot of repetitive stress being placed on our bodies. These recurrent forces can interact with underlying muscular imbalances, faulty mechanics, leading to breakdown of tendon, joint, or even bone, creating an injury. We start with an Excel Physical Therapy Running Evaluation. The Running Evaluation will identify biomechanical abnormalitites in your running form, as well as weaknesses and tightness that are the underlying injury cause. Our specialty-trained physical therapists will develop a treatment plan to address gait flaws and fine-tune your body to improve your running efficiency.
The Excel Physical Therapy Running Evaluation Appointment:
- Comprehensive physical therapy evaluation to assess your injury cause(s) or identify and prevent potential future injuries.
- Running-specific muscle imbalance assessment; includes flexibility and strength testing.
- Video analysis of running gait and biomechanics; frame-by-frame analysis to detect problems in running form.
- Footwear analysis and recommendations; analysis of foot structure and mechanics. Review of current shoe selection.
- Running-specific Treatment Plan to heal your injury and enhance strength, flexibility and to minimize re-injury.
- Prescription of running drills to increase efficiency and address gait abnormalities
- Manual Therapy, Mobilization/Manipulation, and perhaps Dry Needling are used to address tightness, pain and aid recovery.
Because of the repetitive nature of the forces involved with running, recovery is often delayed. To address and prevent injuries such as plantar fasciitis, knee pain, shin splints, low-back pain, IT band pain, Achilles’ tendonitis, stress fractures, and sprains and strains, the root cause needs to be identified and corrected. Excel Physical Therapists have the necessary training to get you moving toward pain-free running.
